Della Darden was born October 27, 1888 to Henry M. and Marcella Whitehead Darden of Courtland, Virginia. The best way to explain the life of Della Darden-Hicks in two words: AUNT DELLA! There is no End to End story of her life. She married Ransom Hicks on May 09, 1907 and they moved to Norfolk, Virginia to start their family. Seeking a better life, Ransom and Della moved to Hartford, Connecticut where they found work and raised their family.
Aunt Della lived in Hartford for more than twenty-nine years. She made many trips back and forth between her hometown of Courtland,Virginia and Hartford , Connecticut. She made sure that her children knew their family roots. She kept a family diary, recording the birth and death of family members. Aunt Della was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to those many lives which she touched with her helping hands and kind heart. She was also a mother and foster mother and made a home for many children in addition to her own.
Aunt Della dispositional traits, goals and values are past to her siblings.
